MPC Vision – 2017 Final Draft

Our vision is to be a vibrant and growing gathering of all kinds of people, united by our common commitment to living under the gracious and loving lordship of Jesus Christ.

We will keep exploring new times and places to gather as God’s church, adding fresh ways to deepen our love for God and one another as we prayerfully make every effort to engage our community.

Our Bible Teaching will be clear, promoting the good news of Jesus in a way that all people understand, and our community life will reflect our gospel convictions:-  we’ll be a welcoming and open church where everyone is valued and included. Together, we’ll show the love of Jesus to our neighbourhoods, our city and our world.

We will equip and encourage all to grow and serve, and we will invest in the future by training the next generation of leaders.  We will focus on prayer for our mission, demonstrating our dependance on God’s grace, mercy and provision.

Our values

We Value The good news about Jesus

Everything we do is for and about Jesus. We love him because he died for our sin to make us friends with God. Because God raised him from the dead to be king of the universe, we gladly strive to live under his rule and promote his glory. (2 Corinthians 5:14-15)

We Value Getting the news out so that people get it

Because the news about Jesus is so good, we work hard to find fresh ways to help all kinds of people hear it in a way that makes sense to them. In everything we do, we’ll try to remove barriers that stop people clearly understanding Jesus.

(Colossians 4:4-6, 1 Corinthians 9:20-22)

We Value Growing as followers of Jesus

We value growing to trust Jesus more and becoming more like him. We’ll always be works in progress, but we grow together as we gather around God’s word and speak the truth to one another in love, using our gifts to build one another up. We prayerfully seek to grow in our ability to serve by engaging with the Bible, learning from mature Christian examples, and effective training. (Ephesians 4:15, Colossians 1:9-12)

We Value The Bible

We deeply value listening to God speak to us through His Word the Bible, authored and illuminated by the Holy Spirit.  All of the Bible makes us ‘wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus,’ so we invest time in understanding, trusting and obeying the good news we discover in every part of scripture. Enabled by the Spirit, this is the primary way we grow as followers of Jesus.   (2 Timothy 3:15-17)

We Value Love in community

Motivated by the sacrificial, other-centred love of Christ, we value sacrificial service of others. It matters to us that anyone who joins us is welcomed, valued and connected as part of our church community. We want our loving church community to actively serve our friends, our neighbours and our world – even those who don’t love us in return.  (John 13:35, James 2:16, Philippians 2:1-4)

We Value Praying Together

We value the privilege of being able to speak directly to our maker. In all situations we turn to him, trusting him with our lives in good times and bad times, because through Jesus we know he hears us. We pray for God’s Mission, for one another, and humbly for our broken world, knowing that God is faithful to work in and through our own broken-ness.  (Philippians 4:4-7, James 5:13-16)
